Frequently Asked Questions
The who, what, where, when and why

omg. r u rilly jc / justin / britney??????///// omg!!!!!!!! i LUV U!!!
No. We are not really the celebrities we are portraying. Hence, this wole disclaimer. Don't ask us for autographs, don't ask us if we can get you autographs. We don't know them personally. Nothing in any of our journals should be taken to heart. It's all fiction.

You guys are lame.
So are you for taking the time to tell us this. If you don't like what we're doing, the answer is simple: Don't read it. :)

Why are you doing this?
Because it's fun. Because we want to. Because we like what we're doing. It's an escape from reality. Some people play role-playing video games, we do the same thing online through journals. We're not trying to bash on the celebrities we're playing; we're not trying to start rumors. We're just playin' a game and trying to release some pent up creative energy.

Can I join?
Sure ya can! First of all, you need to check The Pop Life's Userinfo to see which roles are taken. You can also check The Cast to see which celebrities are open and which ones are needed. Next, you'll need to make a LiveJournal. Usernames usually tend to be the celebrity's name (i.e. JC's is "joshua_scott", Justin's is "j_r__timberlake"). If you already have a personal livejournal, you can NOT use it for the RPG. You'll need to make a second one. Once you've got all that done, simply contact Justin or one of the reccers listed on The Pop Life's Userinfo to make your presence known.

The celebrity I wanted to portray is taken! Can I join anyway?
If the role you wanted is already taken, I'm sorry, but you'll have to chose someone else. But, this shouldn't deter you from joining. Pick someone else! This community is fairly new, and a lot of positions are still available.

Once I'm added, how do I interact with people?
The easiest way to contact other players in the community is by making an AIM SN. Keep it posted in your userinfo so others can find it, maybe even post it in the community so everyone can see it. Another way to interact with other members is through comments. Like Britney? Leave her a comment. Wanna ask JC if he wants to chill next week? Post the suggestion in a comment to him. Everyone likes getting comments, and *GASP* you may just get one back! ;)

What does " OOC " mean?
OOC is an acronym for the phrase Out Of Character. There are several acronyms assiciated with roleplaying, actually.

IC - In Character. When you are talking / writing as your celebrity.
OOC - Out Of Character. What you, as the player, want to say. This should be kept to a MINIMUM. However, some players like to discuss storylines and plots OOC with the other members involved. It's usually typed in brackets like [ this ] or (( this )) to keep it separate.
SL - Story Line. The plot to your celebrity's life.
LJ - Livejournal.
AIM - America Online Instant Messenger. The chat service that we all use.
RP - Role Playing. What we're doing. Also may be referred to as an RPG, which stands for Role Playing Game.
IRL - In Real Life. Not what's going on in The Pop Life, but what's going on in The Real Life. :)

As stated, please keep OOC chit-chat to a minimum. Later on, as the community grows, we may make a separate OOC community for people to ask questions about SLs and ask questions about TPL. But, as for now, please keep all OOCness down. We should be able to keep all of this totally anonymous. If any details are divulged to you OOC by another player, please consider yourself lucky and keep the secret to yourself. For all intents and purposes online, you ARE the celebrity, you answer to their name and for all we know, you are them.

I'm grounded for 3 weeks from the computer, but your limit for no updates is 2 weeks. What am I going to do?
Let someone know. We all have our problems offline, and we understand. If, for any reason, you won't be able to come online or update your journal, please let Justin know so you don't accidentally get removed. By some off chance you are wrongly removed, please let the maintainer know and everything will be straightened out.

Aren't you guys just copying Must Be Pop?
We are the same type of community, yes, but we are in no way trying to copy anything from Must Be Pop. We have a lot of respect for the players in that community, and we'd never knowingly rip anything of theirs off. Any similarities to SLs from MBP are purely coincidental, and we apologize in advance.
