Okey dokey folks, we've been doing so well with keeping the news updated that it's time we moved the older stuff into an archive file... So here you go!
Monday 2nd December 2002
Well, it's an incredibly quiet time right now in the world of Buffy related news... End Of Days The only things I have to add is that Andy Hallet (Lorne in Angel) has signed up for the End of Days convention this coming May - more details on the Starfury site Rotating our way... On top of that Common Rotation will finally be making it to these shores! The band, fronted by non other than Adam Busch (Warren) will be playing at the Scala Club in London (or rather two of them will - Adam Busch and Eric Kuffs) on 23rd June 2003. More info can be found on the CR site and on the S3 events site Crass commercialism (and don't we love it?!) You can tell Christmas is coming when a whole wad of merchandise is released! New items include an Anya Christmas tree ornament, a Spike mug, newly designed mousemats (including a Xander one - yay!), a tin moneybank (with lock!) and mini lunchboxes stuffed with bubblegum. Check out the SciFi Warehouse site (but you're better off headed to your local Forbidden Planet if you actually want to see the stuff before next year... *eg*) Dungeons and Dragons anyone? Speaking of merchandising, the latest offering is the much hyped Buffy RPG guide book (role playing game). Seems to be a great idea but it does come with a hefty price tag. The Core Rulebook weighs in at a cool £25 with the add-ons (such as the Slayers Handbook and the Monster Smackdown) being around the £15-£20 mark. You may be able to shop around and get them to come in cheaper, but unless you're a die-hard RPGer this may well be the kind of thing to wait a few years until it appears in the bargain bin sections... Wednesday 27th November 2002
Well, it's definitely been an interesting week so far! Spent all of yesterday at a librarians conference with no absolutely no sign of any prospective Giles! Grr! Ah well, on with the news! (no pics this week cos I'm running way-behind on schedule!) SR |
... and speaking of conferences
The recent "Blood Text and Fears" academic conference has proved to be a resounding success, with talk of an American version happening in 2004. For a quick rundown take a look here |
Firefly saved?
Fox have still not given a firm order for a full season of Joss Whedon's latest show Firefly, but with an additional order of another two episodes it's beginning to look like we may well get to the end of the year in dribs and drabs... The new episodes will air throughout December in the States, along with the previously shelved pilot episode |
Julie Benz as ET?!
Steven Spielberg must be an Angel fan! He's poached two of the show's actresses for his latest projects. Amy Acker will be in his upcoming film "Catch Me If You Can" while Julie Benz will feature in his new TV mini-series (mini? it's 20 episodes!!!) "Steven Spielberg Presents: Taken" a (surprise, surprise) sci-fi show in which she will play the lead actor (and alien abductee)'s girlfriend and later wife. |
Is nothing sacred!?
US network CBS has just bought the rights to the Tony Head show "Manchild" (previously screened on BBC 2 in the UK and BBC America. The plan is to re-make the show with an all-American cast.... |
Monday 18th November 2002 |
Well, I'd love to say I have more news for you this week but alas, there isn't a great deal happening in the non-spoilery Buffy world right now! Probably the most interesting thing is that the BBC Cult site has launched Buffy Trumps which is a pretty good diversion for a few minutes... There are a couple of spoilery things going on though! If your resolve is weakening (much like my own!) then click on the link above! *g* |
Tuesday 12th November 2002 - Weekly Round up | |
Okay, okay, I didn't do a round up last week,
but hey! I wasn't here! As some of you know I was in London meeting up
with you all for the FSM gig and let me just say this now - they rocked!
*g* Kay, now that's out of my system - on with the news!

Starfury: End Of Days
First convention of 2003 to be announced. End of Days will be held at the Norbreck Castle Hotel next May. There is a decidedly Angelic theme to this con, but with the plethora of Buffy-only cons out there, can you blame them? Confirmed guests so far are: Amy Acker, Vincent Kartheiser, Julie Benz, Daniel Dae Kim, Juliet Landau, Brody Hutzler, Keith Szarabajka. Check out the Starfury website for contact details |

No more 'toons...
Well the rumour mill has been working overtime but it has now been confirmed that Buffy Animated has been shelved indefinitely. According to Joss Whedon (and he should know!) no network wanted it so for now it won't be made. That's not to say it will *never* be made - so watch this space! |
|
Ripper...
Better news for Giles fans, the unstopable Joss Whedon has reiterated his interest in developing a spin-off for the ex-Watcher. Since they apparently enjoyed filming in Britain so much this year, it's looking good for the show to remain true to the original idea and be both set and shot in the UK. (Time to restart my "Ripper for Scotland" campaign *eg*) |

Ratings news
Well, it's that time of the year when the networks and studios in the States start to think about where they can save money for next year and ratings for shows start to become pretty important to the future of the show Buffy - not doing as well as last year unfortunately. Down around 16% from the previous season and with Sarah Michelle Geller still reluctant to sign on the dotted line things aren't looking so good for renewal for an eighth season |
![]() |
Angel - Not doing well at all. Facing stiff competition has not won the WB any new fans of the show and it seems to be down to the diehard fans to keep the show going for now. Of course with UPN poised to pick up the rights, cancellation doesn't look too likely at the moment. |
![]() |
Firefly - things are not looking good at all for this show. Sci Fi shows don't tend to be big audience grabbers and placement on the Friday night graveyard slot hasn't done this show any favours. Critics and die-hards love it, but there just isn't enough of either group to confirm a full season as yet |

Buffy gets X-citing
Okay, bad pun there but hey! With Christmas coming up you might be interested to know that the BtVS game on X-Box is getting some rave reviews (not least from a very close friend of mine!) Set around Season 1 this is a really good role-playing game with very impressive graphics and the like. Of course, I’m not a gamer so I have no clue what that really means – to see a more comprehensive review (written by someone who knows what they’re talking about!) check this out! |

SMG does Christina!
During a guest spot on popular US show "Saturday Night Live", the multi-talented Ms Geller took part in a spoof of Ms Aguilera’s rather raunchy video “Dirrty” as well as taking part in loads of sketches throughout the show. |

David
Fury Interview I thought y'all might be interested in this recent interview given by Buffy writer turned Buffy producer, David Fury. It covers Season 6 mostly and is therefore majorly spoilery in terms of Season 6. It's not at all spoilery for S7 so doesn't really warrant being shuffled over to the Spoiler Section. |

SMG
moving to London??? Sorry, my mistake! Turns out it's just the Buffy wax model soon to be unveilied at Madam Tussauds in London. But it is nice to know that us Limeys can get our Sarah fix without the huge air fare! So move over Kylie, there's a new (wax) girl in town!!! |

Green isn't cool! It's official! Go figure! I would have said he was. But apparently he disagrees. Here's an article from San Bernadino County Sun film writer Glenn Whipp that explains all. |

Scooby's
A-Coming! SMG's recent foray into cartoon capers as Daphne in Scooby Doo didn't techincally have the critics crying with delight and awestruck amazement. But my 4 yeard old niece Alex loved it so that's good enoug for me, particularly as I'd asked her to come with me as my cover!! *g* Anyways, Scooby Doo is released on DVD on 25th November when it can be yours to own or give to a dear relative at Christmas. Pre-order your copy at Blackstar. |

Convention-tastic! This weekend saw the first of this year's two Sector 14 conventions. Crimelords of Sunnydale (South) was held down here in the capital but as the main premise of the convention relates to Season 6, I shall say no more here. Although, if you did go and fancy jotting down on paper a little about the weekend, then email us and we'll post it in Special Collections. The second Sector 14 convention, Crimelords of Sunnydale (North) will be held next weekend in Glasgow. So again, if you're going, we'd love to here about it. The next UK BTVS/Angel related convention is Starfury's End of Days, to be held next year. Loads of Angel stars are reported to be attending including Amy Acker and Julie Benz. The Starfury website is down at the moment though so I can't check the dates but I'll be sure to find them out for next week. |

'One More' Into The Billboard Charts, Dear Friends! The recently released soundtrack to S6's musical episode entered the US Billboard Charts at Number 49 this week. And that's no mean feat!! Chris & Amber Working for The Beeb? Christopher Golden and Amber Benson are apparently working on a script for a new BBC Online project. Sounds exciting, doesn't it? 'Ghosts of Albion' should be released next year but as to what exactly it is? I'll let you know as soon as I find out! *g* On the subject of CG and AB collaborations, the Willow & Tara: Wilderness (2 of 2) comic came out in September, published by Dark Horse. I'm sure you could pick it up from Forbidden Planet. |

Singing in Bath!! ASH will be joining veteran UKactress Stephanie Cole at a charity dinner in Bath. ASH is providing the entertainment at the event to be held on 4th October at the Bath Spa Hotel. We're assuming this will be a combination of after-dinner speaking and singing, rather than a showcase of Slayer Training Skills. |

Firefly
Update Joss Whedon's anxiously awaited new show Firefly premiered on Friday 20th September in the US. Described by Joss himself as 'Stagecoach in Space', Firefly follows the crew of the spaceship, 'Serendipity' lead by its captain, Mal Reynolds, played by Nathan Fillion. Those lovely people over at slayage.com have compiled a list of links to reviews of the show but I can't vouch for how spoilery they might be! Hopefully it'll be picked up over here before long. |
OMWF
Soundtrack On Sale The soundtrack to Once More, With Feeling, Season 6's musical extravaganza is now available on line. It includes spoilers basically but I still thought it was important enough to mention here also. You can buy it online here for £8.99 apparently! Bargain! Reportedly to be called 'American Wedding', Aly is the only returning female star so far to be attached to the project the production of which is set to begin in January 2003. |

Buffy Got Married! Erm pretty straight forward that headline, huh? Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr have ended the circus of media speculation surrounding their impending nuptials. They married in a simple ceremony in Mexico on Sunday, 1st September 2002. SMG wore a simple, elegant dress by Vera Wang and Freddie wore a linen suit. From the photo spread in Hello, it seems that everyone had a wonderful time and SMG was truly glowing. Check out SMGFAN.com's Wedding Album for pictures.Congratulations guys!!! |
