Dear Spindletop,

I called about two months ago asking Spindletop to help me with placing an Am Staff that had been abandoned in southern Illinois. I am writing to let you know how much I appreciate you returning my call. You, and Spindletop, were the only pit bull rescue group that I called that called me back. I go to your website as often as I can handle it, to see the dogs at your facility.

I have to say, I don't know how your group handles it. I have so much respect for you and your co-workers at Spindletop, for being there for those animals. I also wanted you to hear how things have gone for Precious, the Am Staff that I called about. I took Precious to the Champaign County Humane Society because I was not able to keep her.

I did so, against my better judgment. I had this belief that the Humane Society, though so named, was not a humane place for animals. I took in an abandoned, stressed, unhappy and very frightened animal that I wanted to keep and protect from any more harm. Because my terrier wouldn't adjust to her and was very aggressive toward her, I was unable to do so.

By the time Precious was adopted, (which was six weeks later) she was a secure, happy, non-stressed animal. I was so impressed with the change in her that I'm still speechless. I don't know how the staff at the Humane Society were able to bring her to this point of happiness, but my heart is filled with joy because they did so. The Champaign County Humane Society has now adopted Precious. She went to a woman with no children who has a home with a fenced-in yard for her. Its my understanding that both new Mom and Precious are very happy.

I have contributed to many animal welfare groups over the years believing that they were really helping abandoned animals. I have learned in the past few months that when you need these groups the most, they aren't there for animals like the Am Staff that really need them. Spindletop Refuge and the Champaign County Humane Society were though. It is because of my experience with trying to help Precious, and the way you helped, that my contributions will now go to Spindletop and the Champaign County Humane Society in the future.

From what I see, Spindletop especially needs help. Thank you for all your hard work. Thank you for helping all of those animals in your facility. Thank you for being so humane.
