Thea N. Nelson

Thea N. Nelson was born in the heart of Minnesota surrounded by lush farm fields, rolling hillsides, and snow mounds in the winter months. A deep love of nature was placed into her heart by a sensitive and loving mother who walked her thru meadows, forests, and stream beds as soon as she could take her first steps. The family moved to Colorado, another beautiful state, when she was 5 and she remained there until she moved to Long Island, New York in 1980. |
Thea made her home on the North shore of
Long Island for many years until in 2005 when she decided to relocate to a
granite and spruce dotted island off the coast of Maine, Vinalhaven.
"I love being near the sea.......with it's many moods.....nature is
the ultimate beauty." She credits a love for the water from her Norwegian ancestry. Her devotion for nature and life can be seen as an undercurrent within her paintings. She is creating "The Blue Lobster," her new studio, on the waterfront and within walking distance from Vinalhaven's village. There she will paint and teach painting surrounded by the invigorating inspiration of the working harbor. |

People are often heard saying that her paintings bring them happiness. " I quietly shoot photos, as if I am invisible, while I am studying my subjects. It allows me to catch interesting moments in time that are often left unnoticed and in turn gives a deeper meaning to my paintings." She has taken extreme care in choosing her art instructors. She studies with painters whose abilities she greatly admires. |
