UPDATES

2/7/2009 -- The Webmaster is currently transfering her Season 3 of "The Adventures of Superboy" to DVD, and directly from her original master tapes (the original off-the-air recordings). The quality will be good, as the original recordings were straight to VHS. Since WB is at the moment not interested in releasing any more DVD sets beyond Season 1 of Superboy, Season 3 will soon be available through this website for purchase. For now the focus will be on Season 3, then eventually season 2 and 4 (in that order). The intention is to circulate the show and make it available to the public, not to infringe on any Official future releases. Stay tuned! The transfer is in progress. More updates to come once it's available for purchase, here, at The Boy of Steel TV website!

1/12/2009 -- Invite for Superman fans: help Author Larry Tye write his next book about the history of the Superman character! Larry Tye, an author who is currently being published by Random House is looking for anybody who has been involved with Superman on a professional level as well as on a fan to fan level to get involved with his new book. He himself writes to everyone who fits that category:

I am a former reporter at the Boston Globe, off now writing books. My last, a biography of Satchel Paige, will be out in June from Random House. My next, for the same publisher, is a bio of Superman.

I am very interested in hearing from Superman fans. I would like to know when you became interested, whether it was the comic books or comic strips, radio, TV or films that drew you in, and what form your interest takes today. I am interested in what Superman means to you -- from role model to fantasy escape to just a great story. I also am interested in anything else you are willing to share about your passion for the Man of Steel.

If you are willing to share your story, please email me at superwrite@aol.com.

Thanks

Larry Tye

10/12/2008 -- 'Kneel Before The Son Of Zod' is the title of an online article revealing a SPOILER for "Smallville": The Death of Superboy. Though the Superboy TV series never fully developed it's Doomsday finale, CW's "Smallville" may. Sam Witker, a new cast member on "Smallville" is playing the role of Davis (TRIVIA: Sam Witker played a video game character named Starkiller in the popular Star Wars game "The Force Unleashed"), an engineered creature of General Zod's design. The creature, for all intents and purposes, will be a unique version of DC Comic's "The Death of Superman". Visit this link here . for the full scoop!

09/23/2008 -- Apparently, WB does not intend to release seasons 2, 3, and 4 of Superboy, the TV Series on DVD. This is horrible news for the fans, however, let's keep in mind that at one time the Salkind's "Supergirl" with Helen Slater was considered a graveyard product. My advice is to continue the campaign and hope for the best. As far as updates to this website is concerned, it is very difficult to be a webmaster, a filmmaker and to have a life at the same time. There is a wonderful website up on the net at www.superboyhomepage.com that you should visit after visiting here for all fresh and current news. Though I do have plans in the future to spice up this website, that's in the future and it will be for the love of the show and for the fans.

08/05/2007 -- The Superman Homepage is doing an episode review of Season 1 of Superboy: Back to Oblivion. Very detailed and a good read. Check it out (please click here).

07/30/2007 -- Reporting for the San Diego Comic Book Convention, fans of CW's "Smallville" will be happy to know that Eric Johnson has been cast in the lead role for Sci-Fi channel's "Flash Gordon". We know he played Whitney, Lana's boyfriend, in "Smallville". A trailer was shown, showing much promise. The popular and famous Queen music from the 1980 theatrical movie will be used. During the Q & A session, Eric Johnson commented that actors don't usually get the opportunity to play an icon and he was having the time of his life during shooting of the first, preliminary, season.

02/01/2007 -- You can now purchase the complete first season of "Superboy: The TV Series" at just about any DVD/Video store. You can also purchase it online at amazon.com . My thoughts about this DVD? The fact that I had watched my video tapes into the ground, just having them perserved in DVD quality is a special treat. And I admit, I watched the entire DVD more than once. So I'm a little biased, however, if you haven't already purchased it you will be happy to know that there are two commentaries provided by John Haymes Newton and Ilya Salkind for 2 episodes on the discs. I was amazed at how Mr. Newton remembered the introduction Mzyptlk episode so well...he is not only very funny in his commentary, but to hear his first-hand point of view is something a fan can relate to, especially if you remember watching that episode. Also, there is the John Haymes Newton screen test and a featurette which includes interviews with the cast and crew of season 1. Jim Calvert still has that quirky, bubbly personality though no longer in his early 20's. Stacy Haiduk is still gorgeous and has red hair, yet only older...so if you are tired of watching "Smallville" and the Clark, Lana, and Luthor love triangle, then pick up the Season 1 DVD of "Superboy". Witness the boy of steel in action. Hopefully, there will be some news on the Superboy season 2 DVD. But as of now, there is not.

2/9/06 -- HUGE UPDATE! This year Time Warner is going to release the first season of "Superboy: The TV Series" onto DVD. The official release date is June 20th. This should soothe every Superboy fan (and the webmaster, of course =) )... because due to legal issues between Salkind and Time Warner the series never aired beyond its initial syndicated run! Congratulations to the Salkind Company! You can read the article here (please click here). Superboy rested within the minds of one generation, and as far as I know, only myself and one other person had taped the entire series during it's original run. Theories for the reasons why the lean against the series occured were discussed by many fans over the years, and you may find these theories within the pages of this very website. You will also find a lot of enthusiasm for the TV show, which I found not only inspiring but an exciting show to watch. Some of the best flying stunts were captured on camera during the shooting of this series. And my own creative efforts "spurned new offspring" so to speak (...and unless you are a big fan of the series, you may not remember which episode that line is from ;) ). The webmaster of this site Directed her very own feature film! And lo and hehold if you see traces of Superboy in there somewhere, there is one homage to the show that I placed in my movie (maybe for some good trivia one day). Now, the mission of this website is COMPLETE. More updates will ensue as the release of the DVDs become more active. This great "diamond in the rough" -- Superboy the TV Series -- the DVD set! Ilya, any chance of a soundtrack to be included with the DVD set? =) The music really did add to the series, along with the unforgettable performances by Newton, Gerard, and Haiduk. But Kevin Kiner's awesome contribution to the series made the pacing of this show feel like 80's charm. I want to personally thank Ilya Salkind for never giving up (and to Katy at Salkind company for reminding me to update this 'humble' website). It took Ilya 7 years to finalize the deal with Time Warner. Also, I want to thank Gerard Christopher for being a friendly advocate of the show. Once again, congratulations to the Salkind Company! You can visit the Salkind Company website here (please click here).

3/30/05 -- Great NEWS! Warner Brothers Home Video has announced that they are quite aware of the desire to see a release of the Salkind produced Superboy TV series (to DVD). There are no forward answers as of yet, however, they have made an official statement (Quote) "SUPERBOY is under consideration". Check back frequently for more updates.

2/09/05 -- It came and it went, Christopher Reeve's passing. A memorial service was held at the acting school where Reeve attended in his youth (with Robin Williams). The webmaster has a copy of the edited video that was shown at the service (put together by Reeve's son, Matthew). For more, click here.

12/02/04 -- You can still meet Reeve in person. But only as a wax figure. Usually, I wouldn't pay much attention to a wax figure. But this one is rather unique. Check it out here, a new page up on my site.

10/13/04 -- Every fan should see this. I, the webmaster, built a page to the memorial currently taking place at Christopher Reeve's star in Hollywood, at the walk of fame. Please click on the link to read my short tribute to Christopher and to see some photos. Christopher Reeve Memorial page .

10/11/04 -- In honor of the memory of Christopher Reeve....We will miss you....

09/12/03 -- A real update this time. With the hype going on over the new Superman movie I decided to finish my "Superman: The New Movie" section which has been lying around in my site memory for some time. This film was being produced by the Salkinds during the late 1980's/early 1990's and would have starred our very own Gerard Christopher (as Superman). Enjoy the story and enjoy clips from the screenplay. Enjoy! =) Go here .
