The power of the Flag |
Red Flag Shown at the start/finish line and simultaneously at the marshals' post when the race must be stopped. White Flag Stationary: Presence of slower vehicles on track Waved: Drivers may be seriously obstructed by much slower vehicles. Black Flag Shown with white number to make everyone aware of who the black flag is aimed at. The driver must stop in the pits within one lap and report to the Clerk of the Course. Black and White Diagonal Flag One and only warning for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Black, Red Spot Flag Competitor with number shown has a mechanical failure and must stop at his pit. Blue Flag During practise - Stationary: A faster car is following. Give way. Waved: A faster car behind is about to overtake. Give way urgently. During the race - Stationary: Car behind about to lap. Let the other car through. Waved: Let the other car through immediately. You are now risking a penalty. At all times A stationary blue flag will be shown to a driver exiting the pits if the traffic is approaching on the track. Yellow, Red Stripes Flag Stationary: Oil or water on the track. Waved: Slippery surface imminent. Yellow Flag Stationary: Drive well within the limits. Do not overtake. There is a hazard beside the track. Waved: Slow Down. Do not overtakee.. Be prepared to change direction or follow an unusual line. There is a hazard on the track Double waved: Slow down. Do not overtake. Be prepared to stop. The track is partially or wholly blocked. Green Flag At the end of a danger area controlled by yellow flags - all clear. Can also be used to signal the start to the warm up lap. Safety Car The Safety Car may be brought into operation to neutralise a race upon the decision of the Clerk of the Course at any time from, and including, the third lap. Only to be used in circumstances of serious danger when the circuit is not blocked - but the race would nevertheless previously have been stopped. When the order is given to run the Safety Car, all marshals' post will display stationary yellow flags and a board showing S.C. which shall be maintained until the intervention is over. Chequered Flag The race is finished and the winner has been declared. |
