THE MANDATE: The mandate of The Cross Ministries is taken from our Lord Jesus Christ's command in the Great Commission: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them...and teaching them..." (Matthew 28:19-20.) THE NEED: The past 20 years has seen a great upsurge in the conversion of Africans to our Lord Jesus Christ. Several millions of Africans have been saved. While this is good news, there yet remains a great deal of work to be done. First, there has been a neglect of rural Africa in the current evangelistic upsurge. Many thousands of villages and small towns have been sidestepped in preference for ministry in the cities and big towns. As a result, several millions of African villagers have no knowledge of the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hence the need to reach them. Second, even in the midst of the conversions in urban Africa, there is a gaping lack of sound biblical teaching. The persuasiveness of charismatic expression has led to the prevailing expression of charismatic fervor without a corresponding grounding in sound biblical knowledge. There is therefore an urgent need to bring biblical doctrine to those who are being saved. Third, lacking in the current salvation of souls in Africa is shepherds to pastor and teach the people who have come to the Lord. The ratio of trained pastors to saved souls is woefully inadequate and disproportionate. There has to be a way to teach Africans in an inexpensive yet practical and effective way to shepherd the flock God is saving. In short, the spiritual needs mentioned above is what motivate The Cross Ministries in our mission and vision in Ghana and Africa. |
