Dachshunds excel at most activities and can regularly be seen in conformation, obedience, field trials, tracking and warming laps. This is truely a breed that is happiest when spending time with their humans!
Standard Dachshunds were originally bred to hunt badgers and their name litterally means badger dog. Miniature Dachshunds were bred to hunt smaller game like rabbits. These little wonders are extremely intellegent, loving companions, although they can be a bit stubborn at times but that just gives them character!
Dachshunds come in shorthair or smooth, longhair and wirehair varieties with many color and pattern variations. If you would like to add a Dachshund to your family, please visit a reputable breeder in your area to obtain a healthy and well bred Dachshund for your family. Don't forget to check out Dachshund rescue! Dachshunds are great no matter what their age. One more interesting note; Dachshunds can live into their late teens with proper care.
