February 2007

At the FrontLine our mission statement is to make “Followers of Jesus for a lifetime.” But as we processed this statement, we struggled with knowing the best way to make this a reality. Through our discussions, it became increasingly clear that the one thing each of us had in common that helped us to know and follow Jesus more closely was someone that took the time to invest their life into ours while we were in high school. These people not only taught us Biblical truth, but what it looked like to live life day to day as a Christian. They modeled to us evangelism, true fellowship, and service. As they each strived to follow Christ, we were able to watch and learn what it meant to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

The best way we have found to foster our mission of making followers of Jesus are small group Bible studies. At the first of November we began 6 small groups on Sunday nights in addition to the one the Dan Curnutt has continued to lead on Sunday night. The new groups are using materials produced by The Navigators called “The 2:7 Series.” This series strongly emphasizes daily Bible reading, Scripture memory, and sharing Jesus with those around us who do not know Him personally. Our goal is to have at least half of our students involved in these small groups this school year, and as more students desire to grow in their faith we plan on adding more groups.

It is our hope that within this context of small groups students will be given a firm foundation for their faith, that their hearts will be burdened for their friends that do not have a relationship with Jesus, and that they will have a model of what it looks like to live as a disciple of Jesus. Our hearts yearn for students to find true and lasting satisfaction in Jesus Christ and that above all that the world has to offer they will find freedom and abundant life in Him.
