Looking into Greengate Close

This is a view looking into the close, the cottages and gardens still have the traditional look as they would have had in the day of Jessie King. These are the buildings which housed students that came to stay during the summer months and were taught art techniques by Jessie King and E A Taylor. The cottages also still have the origional names relating to the colour of their doors, such as "Yellow Door" "Red Door" and "Blue Door".

There are a number of closes like this in Kirkcudbright, some of which were used as locations for the chase sequence in the "Wicker Man" film.

The Greengate close was used for the setting of the novel "Five Red Herrings" by Dorothy L Sayers.
