|   This is a view looking into the close, the cottages and gardens still 
        have the traditional look as they would have had in the day of Jessie 
        King. These are the buildings which housed students that came to stay 
        during the summer months and were taught art techniques by Jessie King 
        and E A Taylor. The cottages also still have the origional names relating 
        to the colour of their doors, such as "Yellow Door" "Red 
        Door" and "Blue Door". There are a number of closes like this in Kirkcudbright, some of which 
        were used as locations for the chase sequence in the "Wicker Man" 
        film.
 The Greengate close was used for the setting of the novel "Five 
        Red Herrings" by Dorothy L Sayers. |
