Profile: Pat Sharp: Pat was born in 1962, but started in radio at the age of 19 presenting his first show for BBC Radio 1, standing in for Steve Wright.  Pat had no formal training for the job, and got the slot after sending in a tape to the show's producer.  From there, he went on to work for a number of TV and radio stations, including Radio Luxembourg, and SKY's pan-European channel, gigging from Vienna and Oslo.  He hit the real big time as a mid-morning and prime-time presenter on London's 95.8 Capital FM, joining in 1987 from Chiltern Radio and staying for a decade.  During that time he was awarded the gold Sony Award for 'Best DJ' in 1992.  He is little known by his nickname 'Patman'.

During his time at Capital, he formed a strong link with fellow and current Capital presenter Mick Brown to help raise a lot of money for the station's 'Help A London Child' campaign by releasing a string of hit records with PWL, Pete Waterman's record label.

'Let's All Chant' spent nine weeks in the chart peaking at number 11 having entered the chart on the 9th April 1988, the cover of Gonzales' hit 'I Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet' was Pat & Mick's most successful single, spending eight weeks in the chart from 25th March 1989 reaching number 9, another cover, this time Odyssey's 'Use It Up And Wear It Out' followed for six weeks from 14th April 1990, peaking at number 22, the hits continued with 'Gimme Some' the worst performer of the lot, but still a hit, peaking at number 53, spending two weeks on the chart from 23rd March 1991, and finally, another cover, of Arrow's 'Hot Hot Hot', again a two-week stay from 15th May 1993,  fairing slightly better reaching number 47.

Pat first made a move onto TV during his Radio 1 days, presenting Top Of The Pops in it's 1980's era, and he also hosted the CITV show 'Fun House' for 12 years, the run ending only recently, there's also been TV appearances on the ITV equivalent of Top Of The Pops, the short lived 'The Roxy', 'What's Up Doc?' aired on Saturday mornings on ITV, 10 Sharp, Challenge TV's Prizetime, Sky One's UK Top 40 and he was also present for the gala opening of Disneyland Paris.  Talking of recently, he's appeared in an ITV sitcom, 'The Slightly Filthy Show' where he played the part of a DJ, and he took part in an interactive viewer challenge, losing out to a German mullet on Channel 4's 'Banzai'.   He became very well known for his 'mullet' but now has a shorter, 'more sensible' haircut - however Pat remains proud of his mulllet heritage.

He's a regular at some of the top London clubs and bars, not drinking(!), but performing at the 'Cheers' bar in Piccadilly, and 'The Roadhouse' in Covent Garden.  Every Summer, Pat links up with Spandau Ballet star Tony Hadley & Kajagoogoo star Limahl playing live to the holiday crowds in Ibiza.

In January 2003, Pat appeared in a Celebrity DJ edition of 'The Weakest Link' alongside a diverse range of colleagues from the profession.  In the final, he lined up against Jono Coleman - won and netted £10,700 for charity.  April 2004 saw Pat appear in Channel 4 & E4's Celebrity sports show 'The Games' displaying worthy competition and raising a large sum of money for charity.

Pat is happily married with three children and likes Chinese Food, vintage cars & bikes, keeping fit through playing tennis and riding trial bikes, and he used to enjoy the old BBC1 show 'Tomorrow's World'!

Having spent some time at London's Capital FM, he moved to London's Heart 106.2 in September 1997 where he presented the mid-morning show from 9:00am-1:00pm.  The show featured a standard programming element used on London (South East) & Birmingham (West Midlands) Heart stations, the Time Tunnel which aired from 9am.  During mid-August 2004, Pat announced that he was leaving the station after seven years to "pursue other broadcasting and business interests".  His replacement came in the form of Toby Anstis, as part of a station schedule shake-up by owners Chrysalis.  Pat said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Heart 106.2 and being part of such a successful and fun team.".  Station Programme Director at the time, Francis Currie said: "Pat has been integral to the success of Heart 106.2, with his show consistently high in the ratings.  His commitment and professionalism have been a source of inspiration to me personally and we wish him every success with his next move."  His last Heart show aired Friday 20th August 2004.

Whereabouts: Pat now plans to develop his own production company 'Sharpsell' ( www.sharpsell.com ), for whom he is the Chief Executive and is described as 'The Darth Vader of the Master Fader'.  He also aims to take on new radio and TV roles.  As of his departure from Heart 106.2, there was no new radio show lined up.

Pat presents 'Totally Eighties', a nationally syndicated 80's music show produced by Blackburn based 'Blue Revolution Productions' ( www.bluerevolution.co.uk ), 'an action packed 2 hour show featuring great feel-good 80s tracks and memories from the decade of cheese' - tracks are reported to be chosen by the listeners.  The show also features regular 80's star guests, including Belinda Carlisle, Tony Hadley & Hazell Dean.  His syndicated programme work stems back to the 1980s when he presented the EuroChart for commercial radio.

Also, his radio shows are heard on BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) for our troops around the globe, and he also presents inflight programmes aboard Swissair, Sabena & Brittania Airways.  And Pat regularly appears on TV and radio commercials reading voiceover scripts for the likes of Pampers, Warner Bros Cinemas, Sodastream, Rice Krispies Squares, Branston Pickle and more.

RETURN TO THE AIRWAVES: Having left Capital to join Heart in September 1997, after seven years, he's gone back from whence he came.  AIRCHECK has learnt that w/c 25th October, Pat appeared on Capital Gold Breakfast, including the Saturday (30th) on what appears to have been a fill-in slot for the usual presenter.  Having signed a new contract, he will take up his new slot from the New Year of 2005, hosting an evening networked show across the three Century stations (owned by Capital Radio) in the North West (105.4), North East (100-102) and East Midlands (106.0), playing the station's format of music from the 80s, 90s and now, with a smattering of the 70s thrown in, not that the stations make a habit of mentioning.
