L’Hospitalet : I’ve remained one of very few people that have not quit using external MIDI gear to compose, produce or perform. In fact, I refused to get a computer for the longest time. There have been 2 occasions I almost got one: The first was around 2001. I did a graphic design job and kept telling myself to buy a computer with the cash but spontaneously took a trip instead. The second time was in 2004, when I was promised a Mac power-book ( later ibook ) as payment for the sound design of a very famous theatre play in Tijuana. I never got that laptop... but that experience indirectly helped me take another trip. Curiously enough, that trip ended in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, which is where I live now. This project is my attempt to make electronic dance music with computers but most importantly: it is my presentation of the connection between man and machine. Some of the voices on these tracks are of people that I met and asked to speak into a tape recorder. They talk about different things in several languages and come from all walks of life. I might never see any of them again in person but these tracks hold their image. The main themes I wanted to capture are love, joy of life, the spirit of summer and even a little bit of awareness in regards as to where we are and where we’re going as people. I will keep exploring. Extra special thanks for letting me use your computers in Tijuana: Heibeg, Horacio, Lucas, Octavio & Natalia, Tony Raffa, Viktor Alzina. |
