Dr. David Murphy MD, FRCPC, CGPP
Dr. Murphy is licensed to practise medicine in the Province of Ontario and, as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, is a Pain Management Specialist.
Dr. Murphy is a graduate of the University of Manchester Medical School in England (1973). He trained as a Resident in Psychiatry from 1974 to 1975. He moved Canada in 1977. He graduated from the Anesthesiology residency program of Queen's University, Kingston in 1980. He obtained his Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1981 and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1982. He provided specialist Anesthesiology and Intensive Care until 1993.
Since 1993, Dr. Murphy has focused his medical practise in Barrie, Ontario on Psychotherapy and Generalist Psychiatry. As a Trauma Therapist, Dr. Murphy provides Pain Managment Psychotherapy, Forensic Psychotherapy and treatment of Childhood Trauma.
Dr. Murphy has been designated as a Certified General Practice Psychotherapist by the General Practice Psychotherapy Association (GPPA). Dr. Murphy is a Past-President of the GPPA.
In his psychotherapy practise, Dr. Murphy treats Chronic Pain and helps adults who have experienced trauma in childhood. He treats sexual offenders and offers anger management courses. He provides couples therapy.
Dr. Murphy can provide Independent Medical Examinations for litigation lawyers whose clients are suffering from Chronic Pain or Traumatic Brain Injury with Chronic pain. He has been qualified in Court as and expert on Chronic Pain. As both a Certified Anesthesiologist and a Certified Psychotherapist, Dr. Murphy is able to provide an overall picture of the clients physical, mental and emotional symptoms and their impact on day-to-day functioning. He can make recommendations for pain management with regard to mental health, medication and physical treatments.
Dr. Murphy can provide Forensic Risk Assessments of Sexual and other Offenders, including Pre-sentencing reports and is available to give testimony in Court.
