Four employees are up for the soon to be vacated position of CEO of Bootle's Baby Bower, and Courtney Kelly is the only woman. The current CEO, M Billingham Bootle is known for his eccentricites and he uses that advantage to decide who will follow him in running his company. When all four are sent on a scavenget hunt, Courtney is aghast to discover she must find - and marry- a suitable young man within twenty four hours. Courtney has no idea what she's in for.
For the last two years, Mark Billingham has been fascinated by, and fallen for the woman he's been watching on a video tape. Her actions in the boardroom show a capable and self assured woman. He goes along with what he believes to be a joke on the part of his grandfather, not realizing the old man is very serious and knows exactly what he's doing.
Eugenia Riley's latest novel, set around a baby boutique, creates some amusing moments for the leading couple. Courtney and Mark spend one night together after a little too much to drink; Courtney finds her problems multiplying in more ways than one. This gal is career oriented and not ready for hearth and home. But when someone starts sabotaging Bootle's, Courtney has some choices to make.
Courtney and Mark are constantly at odds because neither one is ready to compromise to make their relationship work. Their stubborness carries on for so long, you begin to wonder if there's any hope for them. Hang in there, things have to work out eventually, and it doesn't hurt to have a company sabateur unwittingly point out what's really important in life.
For light reading, The Great Baby Caper is entertaining fun.
