Dominic Dragon of Pendragon has been chosen by King John to wed one of two women at Ayrdale. While Dominic isn't opposed to the idea of marriage, he had in mind to wed his mistress, but the king's will rules.
When the Dragon reaches Ayrdale, he discovers he has a choice of, not two, but three women. It seems the King didn't know the late baron had twin daughters. Dragon makes his choice, and the marriage is performed in short order. It's not until after the consummation, that Dominic begins to suspect he's been tricked, but there's nothing to be done about it now. The prickly, sharped tongue Lady Rose, proves to be more than a match for the king's champion. Can Dominic find a way out of this marriage, or will the thorny Rose grow on him?
Connie Mason has picked an interesting time in English history for the setting of this story. In late 1214, the barons are gathering together to make demands of King John. Dominic finds himself walking a tightrope, having to decide whether to remain loyal to King John or side with the barons. He's the king's champion, yet he understands the barons demands are reasonable. Rose fears the choice her husband must make and the consequences to be paid.
Of course, when you have twins in a story, you'll have the inevitable switches. The opposite personalities of the girls make trading places dangerous, to say the least. King John is at his nastiest as he tries to control the hot political situation with the barons. Court intrigue and political danger abound in this fast paced romance, making The Dragon Lord Connie Mason's best work to date.
