My Oatmeal Recipe

By the Story Making Mother

My crazy oatmeal will make you groan, and maybe

even grin. I have some odd tastes, but it’s all edible, mostly.

Crazy Oatmeal

12 to 18 oz mug or heat-resistant cup

1 packet instant oatmeal

2 – 4 teaspoons of sugar

a few drops of vanilla (optional)

2 shakes of cinnamon (optional)

a teeny shake of nutmeg (optional)

For breakfast, I tend to take a big cup full of hot water from the water cooler at work and pour in a packet of plain instant oatmeal. I add between 2 and 4 teaspoons of sugar, maybe add a splash of vanilla, some cinnamon and nutmeg, if available, stir well, and then I let it sit until it’s lukewarm. All of the liquid floats to the top and the oatmeal stays at the bottom.

All day long, I sip little bits of that liquid, which is surprisingly tasty, and when it’s gone, if I’m feeling adventurous, I eat the oatmeal at the bottom. Otherwise, I wash the solids down the drain.

My in-laws took a missionary trip to the Dominican Republic, where this oatmeal drink, (strained of the actual oatmeal) is a pretty popular refreshment, served over ice. Without ice or a strainer, I invented my own variety, and it’s quite tasty!

I warned you it was crazy!
