Subject: Lost cause!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suing the school, going on a strike as undergrad students, being
transported to other schools in Ontario are all silly ideas. If anything,
undergrad students should come together and file a petition or something
of
that nature, requesting the administration to fire all those CUPE3903
members who are disturbing our education. We should go to the media and
go
to the administration with this type of request in mind, instead of turning
against our own school: a place that many of us will be attending for a
number of years, and a place whose degree we will be carrying with us to
the workforce. We should think of a way to get our education going, not
profiting financially out of the situation. If we start school in January
again, yes it will be hard, but at least we will be able to finish our
school year. And, apparently, we will not be able to start the school year
in January for as long as some CUPE members are willing to disturb our
education. So let's focus our attentions on pressuring the school to get
ri
d of these people, or to hire replacements for them (which U of T planned
to do 2 years ago), so that we can carry on with OUR EDUCATION. Suing the
school is a waste of time too. It will focus our attention on the wrong
cause. Our cause should be TO GET BACK TO SCHOOL. And anything that
diverts our mind from that is WRONG. So let's find a REAL solution to OUR
problems as students, and let's think of a way that we can start going to
school again in January, and finishing the school yer at YORK, on our own
campus, as hard as it may be for many of us. I know many people who are
already applying for OSAP and bursuries, since they will be losing a few
weeks of work in the summer. Most of us would probably make $1,000.00 for
a few weeks of work in the summer that we are now losing. I don't think
borrowing that much money and repaying it after we graduate is that big
of
a deal! Especially if we get to finish the school year. Sure, no one
would want to pay extra and no one would want to borrow money. But w
e have to make the best of the situation. And making the best, is sticking
together to FINISH THE SCHOOL YEAR, and not to divert our attention to
other petty things such as suing the school and so on. Suing the school
will get us nowhere, ENDING THE SCHOOL YEAR WILL! Suing the school will
end us up in a broke, more-divided school than it already is. Ending the
school year will leave some long-lasting wounds on most students, since
it's not gonna be an easy 4 months, but at least we will not have wasted
our year. Sure it's not the most ideal way of finishing the school year,
but perhaps that's another life lesson York students are learning: life
is
NOT always fair. Make the best of situations. And making the best of
situations does NOT always mean making financial gains (ie-suing the
school). So, sure we are angry, we are frustrated, we are gonna have a
tough four months, and things will not be going as smoothly as we had
expected. But, such is life. So let's make the best of the situation and
focus
on attention on getting together to RETURN TO CLASS IN JANUARY, and even
if
that will mean getting rid of CUPE members who are stubborn and greedy
enough to continue to strike then BE IT! Let's force the administration
to
get rid of them. Focusing our attention on suing the school will increase
our frustration and anger, will increase the division that already has been
caused amongst students and administration, and will not do anything in
saving our school year. so LET'S TRY TO GET BACK TO SCHOOL AND not be used
as puppets for the CUPE cause by suing the school. Since the CUPE is
obviously enjoying the idea of undergrads pressuring the administration
by
suing the school. Let's tell the CUPE that we will not be used as their
puppets anymore, and that because of them our school year is being wasted
and that we are willing to do without them if we have to.
Thanks,
