RESCHEDULING OF CLASSES STILL UNCERTAIN
Strike to continue at least one more week in the New Year
Classes will not be resuming on January 3rd, as negotiations between York
Administration and CUPE 3903 are not taking place. As of Thursday December 14th,
York Administration has refused to continue negotiations with the union.
The ratification vote, which will take place on January 4th and January 5th
means that the strike will continue at least one more week into the New Year.
If York Administration's contract does not win support in the ratification vote, the strike will
still continue.
If the union votes to accept York Administration's contract, classes may resume within
a week of the vote.
However according to Ontario Labour Minister Chris Stockwell, ratification votes are rejected
"10, 15, 25 percent of the time".
It is also thought that the odds of a yes vote are low because it is being supervised by
the Progressive Conservatives, who are notorious among graduate students for having deregulated
tuition fees.
CUPE 3903 will be having a general meeting on December 28th to discuss the contract
and forced vote. The primary issue of York Administration's final contract is
tuition indexation,
which is still being removed from graduate students.
