York Administration Kicks Student Circle's Tables Out of Vari Link

Administration Orders Security To Take Away Student's Voice

The Student Circle started setting up tables in the Vari Hall - Curtis Hall link on Monday January 22nd to inform students about the lawsuit. All student clubs are supposed to be entitled to setting up a table at the location.

On Tuesday however, York's Administration under the advice of their lawyer ordered the tables to be taken away. This prevented the Student Circle from setting up the information session that day.

On Wednesday the Student Circle set tables up in the link again. Shortly after, York Administration demanded that students remove the table. However the Student Circle remained in the link without further incident.

On Thursday, two security guards approached the Student Circle table and ordered students to remove the table.

"Instead of trying to help students, York Administration is doing everything in it's power to prevent us from receiving fair compensation," said Hooman Rowshanbin, one of the class representatives of the lawsuit. "First they shut down my e-mail account when I used it to inform students, now they're trying to shut down our tables."

Roderick Hynes, another one of the class representatives said "I have no problem if the administration sets up a table next to ours, but not giving us a voice is a slap in the face."

As of Friday January 26th, the Student Circle has setup tables in front of the Student Centre instead. The Student Centre, which is run by students, did not give any trouble to The Student Circle for setting up tables there.

"In our opinion the rules are not fair, but we will abide by them", said Hooman Rowshanbin after the security guard incident. "We don't want to get into a fight with York's Administration, the only thing we are asking for is fair and reasonable compensation for students".
