You want to do some outdoors sports or recreation, wander about, go for a swim in a lake, ride your bycyle? Or even want to take your kite and let it fly somewhere?

No problem in Hamburg.

I don't want to go in detail here - if you have questions please feel free to send me e-mail.

Hamburg is covered by beautiful lakes and a net of canals is laid over the whole city. It's a dorado for water sports like canoeing, swimming, RC fans and the like.
rote murmel Take for example the so-called "Aussenalster" right in the inner city. You'll find plenty opportunity to lend/hire boats to relax on the water, explore some of the canals that lead east and north from the lake, or follow the River Alster - a view of its own.

rote murmel Or you go for a swim at the public swimming area at "Stadtpark", the big green lungs of Hamburg north of the center. If you take subway line U2, get out at Barmbek and take bus # 213 to the next stop you're about five minutes walk away from it. Surrounded by parkland it's a special experience.
rote murmel Or you go some paces further and hire one of the boats at the little lake that's behind the public swimming pool.

Another lake I recommend is "Oejendorfer See". It can be found in the East of Hamburg, next to Jenfeld which is one of the suburbs.
It's a great spot for nearly everything. Biking, jogging, sun bathing (ah well), bbq, swimming. There are playgrounds for children, kiosks that provide snacks and beverages - and there's no problem finding a parking lot for your car.
