Met in the Fog

Gazette State News Service Stuttgart, Nov, 29.

A diesel-powered freight piled into a steam driven train at Aurich siding, eight miles north of here, during a dense fog this morning. The only injury in the crash of Cotton Belt units was a sprained ankle suffered by 0. W. Glover. Six cars were derailed. G. L Summerall, Pine Bluff, fireman on the southbound unit, said his train went into the siding to permit a northbound passenger train to pass. The freight was too long for the siding and it was necessary for. the passenger to pull alongside and stop while the freight pulled around it. Summerall said the passenger had cleared and his train backed into the siding to repeat the operation with the northbound diesel. However, before the switch could be closed, the diesel roared into the steam locomotive, the fireman said. Wrecking crews from Pine Bluff cleared the line shortly after 9 tonight.
