FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD! If culinary variety is what you seek, Singapore is paradise. Dotted all over the island are hawker centres and eating places of every type and ethnic origin - Malay, Chinese, Eurasian, Indian, Continental, etc. You name it and chances are it's available in Singapore. If not, it's probably in the works.WHERE TO FIND FILIPINO FOOD
Leaving home has this two-fold effect on the average Filipino expat: (1) Filial piety becomes a virtue. The cook, usually Mom, is elevated to the status of Fairy of the Kitchen. (How else could she have made these same meat and vegetables in front of me sooooo delicious back home?) (2) The Pinoy expatriate learns how to cook and suddenly, Jimmy Santos, basketball player turned comedian, is venerated as a fountain of wisdom. (Didn't he utter this gem : "If you don't cook, you don't eat; and if you don't eat you die"?) Believe me, after a few months of dining out and wondering where his pocket used to be, our kababayan WILL COOK. It's definitely cheaper to cook than to eat out. And if I may add, for guys, 'tis the chance to discover the New Age Man within them, and for both guys and gals to view cooking just as importantly as those skills written down in resumes.
