| STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: THE VOICE OF BOB Disgruntle Burners Old and New BOB (Bitter Old Burners) view this thing called BURNING MAN as a definitive EYEWITNESS and front row seat to the CULTURAL-ARTISTIC-SEXUAL REVOLUTION that is occuring in the decades between the changing of the Millennium. It provides a good time, a good party and a free space to test out and express the needs and wants of a generation. In time it has become a PURVEYOR and SYMBOL of ANARCHY for thousands around the world. From the decompression parties to the regionals, it not only made Hakim Bey's Vision of Temporary Autonomous Zones and Poetic Terrorism a reality, it exploded and spread the seeds for those periphery thoughts to become a growing phenomenon and instigator of new social order. Therefore ignoring or even fighting the momentum this thing has started is ridiculous..... But the Burning Man of Legend is no longer. After Nearly Twenty Years of Existence BURNING MAN has Turned into an INSTITUTION. The organizers has taken on the roles of both the BOURGEOIS and the OLIGARCHY, with much RULES and REGULATIONS to abide by. This they do, for the sake of the multiple of thousands who pay the financial and geographical pilgrimage each year. But let not forget it is a CHOICE, VISION and WANT of the organizers to allow unmediated growth. The need for creating Autonomous Zones in the first place is percipitated by the constant increases in population, the creation of cities, cramming us into small anonymous spaces that destroys community and humanity. Burning Man is a place away from the constricting existence of FORCED SOCIETAL MORALS, NORMS and LAWS but we find that both these form of repression is happening to and at our beloved Anti-Man Festival. It is hard on the TRUE SPIRITS that broke the barriers and RAISED THE BAR to watch their sacred space diluted for the consumption of the masses, turning into a giant party of sex, drugs and speakers wars away from Art, Chaos, Humor and Magik. It is true. We walked out into the Dessert while the rest sneered at us.... And we, The Voice of BOB, shall PARTICIPATE AGAINST this seemingly unstoppable trend rather than watch it go into the dirty drains and potholes of aging concrete. No longer can we sit quietly and allow this once free-for-all Anarchist Festival turn into a psychedelic Disneyland, Starbucks, and McDonalds. In every society, community and city there are DISSENTERS, CASTAWAYS, FREAKS, and the DISAFFECTED. Black Rock City cannot remain above or away from the natural growth pattern the march of civilization takes us. It is INEVITABLE for those who hold views contrary to the reigning paradigm and conventional wisdom to rise up. It is DESTINY. The idea of FRESH, NEW and REVOLUTIONARY can never stand still. It must build itself up and tear itself down and always stand NAKED before the universe. Therefore it is necessary that we use the energy of IRRITATION and MALCONTENT to confront what has become CONVENTION or MAINSTREAM: *TEAR DOWN the STRUCTURE and the new HIERARCHY. *REBEL against the bourgeois ageing statesmen of the Burning Man ESTABLISHMENT. *DEFY every carefully written RULE and hidden TRIBAL BY LAW the organizers and PARTICIPANTS try to implement. It is what Burning Man did to the world. It is possible to do it AGAINST OURSELVES. We MUST NEVER LOOK BACK. Instead think of the best ways to work against and challenge what is in place today. But part of us must forgive burning man for eventually succumbing to the curious masses and therefore not sneer at them in return. It is inevitable and it is EVOLUTION. Even the most HERD MINDED dullards of our species is as at least in some fucked up way trying to break free from The Group. Even if some of them are bumbling mindless uncreative fools. We should still rather have them try to be artistic, rebellious or whatever than financing and supporting the Religions or Bush or other Big Powerful Institutions. Therefore: We plan to confuse, disorientate and shock them as we once were. We shall prank, gather and disobey. It is destiny.
