Adventures of a Couple of Old Texas Campers

What happens when you combine the best features of a camping trailer such as the Casita with the best features of a popup such as the Coleman Utah is called a "hybrid." Here is the Rockwood Roo hybrid...

The Rockwood Roo is a lightweight hybrid made by Forest River weighing just about 250 lbs. more than the Casita and about 100 lbs. more than the Coleman Utah but, with the double axles, having a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 4723 lbs. (figures for the 21'). It has all the features one could want (well, almost) and has 25 gal. holding tanks for gray and black water and a 31 gal. tank for fresh water (including the 6-gal hot water heater tank). Ours has the Riser Kit which includes the risers, 14" tires and double step. So far we have found it very comfortable and convenient to camp in and very pleasant to tow with the F150 with a 5.4 liter V8 engine and towing package. We noticed a drop in MPG of 1.0 to 1.5 miles per gallon less than with the Coleman, due I'm sure to the wind resistance of the large, flat front and our carrying along much more junk than we needed to. We added a Reese Sway Bar and have had no problems on the interstate or elsewhere. We are looking forward to making some extended trips (2-3 weeks each) in the Spring and Fall. Will add more photos of interior and exterior features as time goes on, along with reports on how things work or don't work. Here is the link to the Rockwood/Forest River website in case you want to check out their line of RV's.
