The emphasis of the School of the Writing Space is as much on context as on content. The past decade has been a challenging time economically, with people working more hours, and more irregular hours, to stay afloat. Our flexible schedule and reasonable rates make it possible for many people who would otherwise be silent to keep a space for writing in their lives. This is particularly important for women, who frequently act as care-givers for children and elders, in addition to earning a living. Each week, we discuss the practical challenges of writing: financial survival, finding markets, asserting time and space, accommodating the changes which writing brings to your schedule and your relationships. Students provide support and ideas for each other in meeting these challenges.
