| why sci-fi lullabies is the best | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| by laura | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| from the first guitar chord starting off 'my insatiable one' to the last dying strain on 'duchess,' sci-fi lullabies is a triumph, both musically and emotionally. perhaps it is beacuse this is an album of b-sides, but the songs are more emotional and less pop than the songs on the other albums. this album is filled with heartbreakingly passionate highs and lows, as brett anderson's indescribable voice takes you, the humble listener, on a breathless ride through these beautifully crafted, earth-shattering songs. the rest of the band is no less brilliant: brett is backed by guitars, primarily, and you never know guitars could sound so good. (you might have thought you did, but really you were wrong.) like brett's voice, they wail and sigh, creating an atmosphere which draws you into the music. the album is, simply put, beautiful. like so many suede albums, it just keeps getting better. whether you are listening to a quiet lamentation like 'the living dead' (a song which never fails to give me goosebumps), or to a masterpiece like 'killing of a flash boy' (the closest you get to pop on this album, which is saying a lot), you are pulled in by the raw power of brett's voice. this album will become your life, your drug of choice, your world, and i dont think brett would have it any other way. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
