the true story of how laura got into kings of convenience: several months ago, like maybe even last spring, i read an article in some music magazine about a new scandinavian band who were supposedly really quiet and adorable and good. i thought, 'wow, they sound great! i should check them out.' did i check them out? nope. but it was okay, because i have this friend named lindsey (perhaps you've heard of her) who's really good at finding new music and then telling me i need to hear them right now. so she burned me a cd. and it was really good. |

how cute are kings of convenience? really cute. (just look at them!) how good is their music? really good. think acoustic guitars and tight harmonies. this is not music for a beautiful sunny day when you're driving to the beach; it's music for a rainy day when you're sitting in front of a roaring fire with a cuppatea and a good book. |

of course, when do i ever get a chance to sit in front of a fireplace with tea and a book? never! (well, hardly ever.) so i have to settle for listening to them under less peaceful circumstances, such as when i'm studying. my roommate can't listen to music while she studies (which is a foreign concept to me), but i can get away with putting music on while we study as long as it's quiet. so a few days ago, we were studying and i had kings of convenience on (because, really, there's nothing quieter), and my roommate said, 'i really like what we're listening to!' and i said something along the lines of, 'well, that's because it's really good.' she said it reminded her of simon and garfunkel. and it's true. they sound like simon & garfunkel at their 'scarborough fair' best: peaceful, harmonic, quiet, with a dash of cuteness. and beautiful. |

plus, (and i realise this may come as a shock, so prepare yourself) i'm a sucker for dorky boys, especially dorky boys in glasses. so how could i not love this band! |
