Flyball!

Flyball is a game that a lot of Border Collies enjoy and is just
one of the many ways to keep them fit, active, busy and happy.
Flyball is an exciting, fast paced sport which involves 2 things
Border Collies love, ... running and tennis balls.

General Description

A Flyball team consists of *4 dogs. Flyball is a relay race with 2 teams racing against
each other simultaneously and against the clock - each having their own lane with a
row of 4 jumps and a Flyball box at one end. When given the signal, the first dogs on
each team are released, fly over th 4 jumps, trigger the box, and a ball is released,
which they catch and return over the 4 jumps to their handlers. The race continues
until all 4 dogs on each team have completed the same performance. Usually there
are 3-5 heats in each race, the first team to complete the race (without errors - best
out of 3 or 5 heats/race) in the fastest time - wins!

*Though teams are limited to 4 dogs per, each team may have additional dogs sparing in and out.

The height of the Flyball jumps (between 8-16") may vary
depending on the shoulder height of the smallest dog on each team. Because
timing is so crucial and extremely competitive, many teams prefer to have a
small dog - known as a 'height dog', in order to keep the jump heights as low
as possible for the rest of the team ... encouraging faster times.
