I am a five-foot-tall eccentric tea aficionado who is always late for everything. The cat and mutant carrot in the picture on the right are both at my father's house, 36 miles from Pomeroy, Washington. (As in, that's the nearest town.) If you look in the background through the sliding glass door, you can see the hills surrounding the Snake River. My father's house is on a bluff about 5 miles from Lower Granite Dam, where he works as a biological technician (i.e., he puts radio tags in endangered species of fish so they can be tracked). My stepmother also works there, as a fish counter (how else would we know how many endangered fish there are to be tracked?). The carrot was homegrown, sadly to say. My stepmother's garden is huge, growing everything from corn to tomatoes to strawberries, and they also have a pear tree. No partridges. Two generations of foxes have laired almost within sight of the sliding glass door, although they have mostly disappeared, probably due to local idiots taking potshots at anything that moves. My father has incredible pictures of baby foxes, some taken from mere feet away. I actually grew up with my mother in Moscow, Idaho, 43 miles from my father's place. It's the home of the University of Idaho (Idaho Vandals Suck!), which most of my friends from high school attend. Also, it's the "lentil capitol of the world," in case anyone cares. My stepfather works in nearby Pullman, WA as a bus driver on one of the few bus routes. My mother is a freelance cake decorator in between trying to raise my four little brothers. The boys are a handful, being oldest to youngest: a rebellious teenager, an autistic teenager, an adorable eight-year-old genius, and an extremely cute five-year-old with an iron will. I have a picture of the youngest two on the right. I am a druid (see www.adf.org) and a member of Red Oak Grove, and have been Pagan for over five years. Currently, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, and I am trying to form a Pagan student group there. I am majoring in Linguistics, with minors in Cognitive Science and Religious Studies. I am also lesbian-with-exceptions, which I prefer to "bisexual" because the latter word implies a half-and-half sort of sexuality. I am more 95/5 (girls/boys) than 50/50. Currently, I am involved with a wonderful man named William, which confuses people who have heard me say I'm lesbian. Until I remind them that you fall in love with people, not genitals. I absolutely adore kids. Right now, I'm working at Penn Children's Center with children under the age of 3. I have worked as a Girl Scout camp counselor---the Girl Scouts are much more tolerant than the Boy Scouts---and am sponsoring a little girl in Ecuador named Emily. I am a semi-professional folk singer-songwriter, a poet, a dabbler in graphic art, and a would-be novelist. An internet version of my first book of poetry is available on this site (see the link to the right). It also incidentally showcases some of my graphic art, which is almost entirely wallpaper or backgrounds. The names of the pieces can be found in the lower left corner of each page within that section of the site. You like the background of this page? It's called "Rainbow Movement," one of three in the "Movement" series. "Blue Movement" is somewhere in the poetry. The third is "Scarab," which I have not put on this site. The background of the "On absentmindedness . . ." page is called "Interstellar Rainbow" and is really a variation on "Interstellar." I am passionate about good fantasy novels, especially Laurell K. Hamilton's brand of erotic fantasy and Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series. My favorite bands are, in order: Kila, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, the Eagles, Seal, and Loreena McKennitt. I also like U2, Enigma, Enya, Altan, Deanta, Solas, as well as pre-1995 Madonna, Elton John, and Michael Jackson (yes, I admit it; just because the man may or may not be a child molester does not ruin his music). I absolutely despise hip-hop, although William is teaching me to like a few songs. I suppose that's enough for you to get some idea of what I'm like. And please don't steal my artwork. |
