Fahrenheit 911 Detractors Abound
This week I had a phone conversation with a friend who began telling me that F911 is full of lies and "bashes Bush".  When I asked him if he'd seen the movie, he of course said "No".  He then sent me links to several anti-F911 web pages that purports to expose the lies in the movie.  Problem is that there aren't really any lies in the movie - instead they say the movie presents information in a "deceitful" fashion.

His response to one of several emails was that he was just pointing out the views of some people who "saw the movie and disagreed with it".  He didn't understand "why you feel so compelled to defend it" from the accusations of lies.

Just an FYI that this person "used to be" a Republican but now isn't.  He is now just a "conservative" but he takes issue with the term "right-winger".  This is a guy who voted for Pat Buchanan and for Bush and for Dole, etc. etc.

Pretty clever strategy really, just take the position that you are an independent and don't support anything Republican yet you get to vote for them, and support what they support with the easy out of saying that you aren't one of them.  The only problem with that is that you end up supporting evil people.

The other interesting fact about this is that he said that there wasn't a story about the mis-administration exploring the requirements for postponing (read canceling) the November elections, when I sent him a link to the Newsweek story, he said that it wasn't valid due to "unnamed sources".  This is the same person who said that Clinton's attacks in Kosovo were "wagging the dog" and that there really wasn't any crisis in Kosovo due to Serb attacks on civilians.  When presented with facts to the contrary he questioned the validity of the news sources (CNN, USA today, BBC, Xinhua, AFP).  When I finally was able to find credible (in his view) news sources that told the story, he shut up.  He never responded to my emails, never even - to my knowledge - looked at the information I sent him.  He just never mentioned the subject again.  Once in awhile he tries to bait me into a debate - and I just remind him that I'll be glad to debate as soon as he answers the Kosovo email I sent him.

Once he asked me to re-send the information - which I did - and he once again never responded.

Typical of a (I'm not a Republican but I vote Republican, consider myself a Republican, and do not have the capacity for self-doubt) type.  Like to debate, but can't stomach factual information.
Come Here so I can take my statue to you!
