Thompson Farms has been around for over 50 years as a family owned and operated facility. RK Thompson bought the farm back in 1952 and "T" Line Jerseys was established. Today the Thompson Family are producers of Black Angus cows.
It all started in 1952; RK Thompson and his wife Phyllis purchased a farm near Sigel. The farm then expanded and grew, in the late 1980's the farm had expanded so much that the decision of expansion was short lived. The end of the dairy farming era at Thompson Farms had came to a close, the farm then continued operations in the production of beef cattle.
In 1993 Thompson Farms went under new management in after the death of RK Thompson. RK's son Richard C (RC) Thompson became new owner and president of the farm. RC Thompson replaced the farms white face cattle with 11 black angus and 1 red angus cow. A few years latter in 2000 RC's mother Phyllis who was secretary at the time had to retire from the farm and move into a personal care home that summer, she passed away in the late fall, it was beleived that her paste maker had stopped working.
In 2001 Thompson Farms received a government grant to build a feed area for the cows. Since then many landscaping renovations have been performed that have made the farm a much cleaner and dryer place for the cows to graze. In July of 2005 just before the final phase of the project, owner Richard Thompson (RC) was diagnosed with acute Leukemia, he passed away a month latter, his legacy lives on at Thompson Farms. The feed area did get completed after aproval of the family. In 2006 the feed area received the recognition of the Richard C. Thompson Memorial Feed Area in honor of Richard's service at the farm.
Internet
In November of 2001 after when the World Wide Web reached Thompson Farms on their iMac running MacOS 9 came the start of the farm's website. The Thompson Farms website became alive and brought the family and friends closer to the farm. The site continues to this day, Thompson Farms has transitioned computer operating systems since then from the old Mac OS 9 to Windows XP, today all online operations are created using Windows Vista technology.
Agritourism
In the summer of 2005 launched a whole new vision of farming. The opening of the Thompson Farms Corn Maze has brought hundreds of visitors into the farm from the general public to connect closer to farming. The Maze brings people to the farm to experience agriculture and to learn about all its wonders. The Maze completed is second successful year in 2006 and is growing each year to entertain the public better.
