Community Involvement Three Flags Chapter is involved in the community. Each year members help out in a variety of ways. Below are the DAR community focused activities that our members take part in. Americanism: Our members participate in local Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades. We collect used flags for VFW burning on Flag Day. Children of the American Revolution: Our chapter gives financial support to the local C.A.R. Society, Lexington Alarm, and to the State Organization to help them with their state-wide activities. Community Service: We honor an outstanding Community Volunteer each year at a luncheon. DAR Good Citizens: We sponsor outstanding Seniors at 12 different high schools each year. The sponsored Good Citizens are honored at a potluck luncheon in March for their patriotic essays and scholastic, athletic, and community accomplishments. DAR Schools: Our chapter supports the DAR Schools for underprivileged, abused, or special needs children. We collect Campbell's Soup Labels, Betty Crocker, and Help Your School coupons to send to the schools so they can purchase things that they need to help their students. DAR Service for Veterans: We provide personal care items and furnish items to be sold at the VA Medical Center. Each year we sponsor a Veteran Patient and Youth Volunteer for DAR Service for Veterans Awards. Junior American Citizens: The chapter sponsors this contest each year for Art and Creative Expression on patriotic/historical theme. This contest is open to both general and special education students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Lineage Research: Our members present workshops to the public to provide assistance with searching for ancestor patriots. We also assist prospective members with making sure they have the correct proof and completing their DAR membership applications. Literacy Challenge: Our chapter gives an annual gift of books at Christmas to a tutoring program in southwest Detroit. |
