We arrived in the largest city in the world after a short drive from the VillaMoot site (about 45 minutes.) We were supposed to follow one of the staff members for a guided tour, but most of us strategically avoided that. Ryan, Ryan and Mike (the Ontario boys) quickly ducked out and wandered around for several hours. We passed through some sort of automotive district (with lots of auto parts dealers) and a flea market. We also saw lots of black-market sellers (fake watches, sunglasses, designer clothes etc.) To top it all off, we were also swindled by some moron who started throwing a fit in the middle of the sidewalk and wouldn't stop until we paid him money. Ah, fun.
Anyway, a bunch of pictures follow...
How many VW Beetles can you cound in this picture? (The green ones are taxis.)
By this point in our adventure, we needed some "familliar" food. Not good food mind you, but familliar.
This is a quaint little park that we wandered through...
I thought this was a nifty streetscape, so I made Ryan take a picture of it. I guess that's the urban planner in me.
Notice the "no parking" sign off to the left side of the dark coloured Chrysler...
This is Mexico's revolution monument. It was also our starting and ending point for the "tour." So, at all times we had to keep it in sight (which is not that easy, considering the size of Mexico.) Anyway, some of the Canadians climbed the stairs to the top... Ryan, Ryan and I were going to, but then decided better of that one.
