The Count Down series by Daniel Parker – This is a fast paced series about the year after a plague leaves only teenagers behind in its wake. It’s a thrilling series about how a group of teens called the Chosen Ones must use everything they know to survive and live in the world. This is a fantastic 12 book series that goes by months of the year. It has strong language and sexual situations.
Call of the Wild and White Fang by Jack London - I had to put this in. These two books are among my all-time favorite books. Both are the stories about the bonds between a man and his dog or his wolf.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling - This is the first in a series of fantastic books. It only takes this one to start. It's about a boy, Harry Potter, who learns that he is a wizard. It's all about Harry's adventures as he goes to school at Hogwarts and what happens to him. It contains a vast amount of friends, villians, magic, mythical creatures, and animals. Take a peak to this first story to see why readers become hooked. The series is engaging and nothing short of magical. |

"The Squire’s Tale." "The Squire, the Knight, and his Lady." By Gilbert Morris. – This is a part take on the early Arthurian legends about his nephew, Gawain, and his Squire, Terrence. Absolutely hysterical! There are a total of five books in this “series” and I say that loosely because only these two are about the same characters.
“The Ruby in the Smoke.” “The Shadow in the North.” “The Tiger in the Well.” “The Tin Princess.” By. Philip Pullman - These are great detective books. Much like the Hardy’s. They are set in late Victoria England with the strangest arrangement of characters ever seen. Its starts out with a girl, Sally Lockhart, who on a mission to find her Father’s killer bumps in a photographer who falls head over heels for her, somehow he manages though to make life harder for her than it really has to be. Some violence and cussing.
“Hank the Cowdog.” John R. Erickson - There are over thirty books in this series. It’s about a dopey Cowdog named Hank who thinks he knows everything there is to know about his ranch in west Texas. Book after book, Hank and his stupid sidekick, Drover, battle against killer horses, preying buzzards, coyotes who have no brains, the love of Hank’s life, Beulah, and their own stupidity. This is by far the funniest book ever written, especially if you live in or around Texas, or just have two stupid dogs. |
