CORIANDER
coriandrum sativum PARTS USED leaf and seed AKA cilantro coriander seed leaf cilantro DESCRIPTION Small annual that is cultivated for thousands of years and is still grown in North and South America, Europe, and the Mediterraniun area. Round, finely grooved stem grows 1 to 2 feet high, a thin spindle-shaped root. Leaves are pinnately decompound, lower ones cleft and lobed, upper finely dissected. August white to red flowers appear flat, compound umbels of 3 to 5 rays. Brownish, globose seeds have disagreeable smell until ripened, then a spicy aroma. In cilantro the seed is actually two seeds. So it probably is typical to get two sprouts from each seed that you plant. Beets grow that way, too. I've read that it's best to just snip the weaker of the two, rather than trying to separate them. But that's all just from reading, not from personal experience. Well, when I planted the beets I did separate them and plant both, and time will tell how well they survived it. Since you have so many, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try. CULINARY CULTIVATION DESCRIPTION MAGICK MAGICKAL PROPERTIES |
