Reference: Tips for Using the Training Guides
|
|
Welcome e-terns. We're thrilled to have you on board. We know that many of you have probably never tried a virtual internship. This is why we've developed extensive training materials to guide you through the process.
The training guides below will clarify the concept and purpose of HelpGrams and will teach you all you need to know about writing effective HelpGrams. Read every page thoroughly, and carefully follow the procedures in this guide. Doing so will ensure that you'll write high-quality HelpGrams that are consistent with our mission and our editorial style.
Each page in the HelpGram Overview Guide, the HelpGram Writing & Style Guide, and the HelpGram Reference Guide contains quick reference tables, like the one to your right, that briefly list tips that relate to each page's topic. Read these tables after you read each page. Doing so will help you review what you've learned.
In addition, many pages in this guide contain tables that illustrate
an example of a procedure, technique, or principle. Read these tables carefully.
They will increase your understanding of the material.
ALL e-terns MUST read the HelpGram Overview Guide, the HelpGram Writing &
Style Guide, and the HelpGram Reference Guide. In addition to these guides,
editors and assistant editors must read the HelpGram Editing Guide. Writing
coaches must read the HelpGram Writing Coach Guide, and copyeditors must read
the HelpGram Copyediting Guide.
If anything is unclear after you finish reading the guides, ask questions. But remember to relax. You will get the hang of writing HelpGrams in no time. Make sure you understand the procedures in this guide, and use this guide as a reference when you begin writing your HelpGrams. Happy E-terning!
