ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I like all types of music, including ethnic (Chinese, Malay, Indian), rock, blues, jazz, and to some extent, classical. When writing songs, I do not restrict myself to a certain style or genre. Generally, I write what comes from my heart, in particular, about love, the struggles and pains in life, social and political issues or any subjects that catch my interest. I think I can classify most my songs as pop and alternative music with Eastern influence. I started to compose music when I was 18+. However, I could only jot down the tunes and ideas on papers and kept them in the drawers. I did not have the means to turn those ideas to music. That was the time when personal computers and MIDI music were not invented. I played guitar for many years and learn to read notes and play pop and classical pieces. But I'm not really happy with just playing alone. Firstly, it is my inability to master the advanced technique. I know it would take me ages to attain a level of finger dexterity to become a performer. Secondly, I really enjoy composing music more than playing. I have a lot of musical ideas in my head but I do not have the means to turn them into music - I do not have a band and studio equipment to produce the music. With the recent advances in PCs, inexpensive sound cards and tools like MIDI sequencing software, It is now possible to write down the musical ideas and let the computer perform them. That's exactly what I do: I enter the notes of a song one by one using a mouse. It's a time consuming effort but worth the trouble. By using a computer, midi sequencing software and sound card, I finally have the right tools to perform the music I composed and to share my music with anyone who likes it. I have written about 100 songs. I have earlier resolved
to sequence 1-2 new songs per month. However I found that this is not always
possible as I'm doing this part-time.
