In the course of the
performance of Innocent Marpl’s stories,
there will be a song on Marpl's words. It’s a song about the
British poet-preacher-heretic John Donn translated in Even (or Lamut or Tungus) tongue. |
Dmitry Sumarokov suggested that the music accompanying the song be written with Eastern influence, or may be with the mood of Chinese tradition. Of course that music should be strange and crazy – as you know, Marpl was the mad composer all the same. |
I chose to write the song with the mood of Chinese tradition. However, since General MIDI does not have Chinese musical instruments, I have to use other instruments or a combination of other instruments to approximate the sounds. For examples: |
|
The song is a mixture of Chinese folk, rites
and operas music. It does not have a fixed tempo. The song may suddenly
increase in tempo and slow down unexpectedly, e.g. measures 53 - 69. This is
to portray a man who suffers from hallucination and may be going in a trance
and waking up repeatedly.
