Chapter 2: Races.

Races
DWARVES - 2nd draft
Hekarihm and Sirilak

Dwarves (or Purlans - an obscure term), are commonly thought of as a dying race. Their proud history is all that remains of the last time a dwarven kingdom existed. Now, they are dispersed to the four corners, where they live in relative isolation. Given the apparent lack of a homeland, many dwarves are drawn to wander to world either in search of a new homeland or simply because they have no sense of belonging. The changes for the dwarves of Skylis are listed below. All other racial abilities and resistances remain the same, as outlined in the Players Handbook.

HEKARIHM

Hekar dwarves (hekarihm) are also known as hill dwarves. Of the two dwarven races available to the players, these are the more common. Their forefathers came from the ancient Crossedaxe Clan. Hekarihm tend not to get along with their sirilak cousins, as there has long been bad blood between the two 'khlans'. The majority of the hekarihm live in cave homes, hewn from the mountainside. Their villages are predominantly in the Setra Mountains and the Redd Hills of Coastlands. They also used to inhabit areas of the Scole Ranges in Steafanoes, but due to the violent interference of General Veibschlange, that is no longer the case.

Hekar dwarves receive a racial bonus of +1 to their Constitution score and a racial penalty of -1 to Wisdom. They also receive a racial bonus of +2 to all skill checks when using Knowledge (Ancient Purlan History), Profession (Hunter), Profession (Miner), and Wilderness Lore. Hekar dwarves have a reduced Darkvision ability of 40 feet, and do not receive any racial bonus to attack rolls against orcs and goblinoids. However, they do receive a +1 racial bonus to all attack rolls with a crossbow. Automatic Languages: Tok, and one of the following; Ladish, Baleric or Galornic.

"Mighty may the mountain be, it too shall fall. Careful, lest it fall on ye!"
      hekarihm saying.

SIRILAK

These are the rare dwarves, once of the ancient Strongmallet Clan, otherwise known as mountain dwarves. Within this group are two sorts: the traditional - who follow the ways of brotherhood set out by their forefathers - and the tribal - an unruly, outspoken lot who spend a significant amount of time fighting amongst themselves. All sirilak settlements are far underground and most are situated within the Lone Mountains of Steafanoes. They tend to keep themselves away from the rest of the bothersome world, and recent conflict with General Veibschlange has further solidified this stance.

Sirilak dwarves receive a racial bonus of +1 to their Strength score and a racial penalty of -1 to Charisma. They also receive a racial bonus of +2 to all skill checks when using Knowledge (Ancient Purlan History), Knowledge (Engineering), and Profession (Miner). Furthermore, Knowledge (Engineering) is always considered a Class Skill regardless of normal rules. Sirilak also receive the bonus feat of Mechanics. Automatic Languages: Tok, and one of the following; Ladish, Baleric or Galornic.

"A King who is without a kingdom is still a King."
      sirilak proverb.
