Description
MORTAL
Sloan is a rather plain young woman in her early 20's. Thin,
pale and only a little more than 5 feet tall her only
striking feature is her dark wavy auburn hair. Her eyes are
pale gray except just around the pupil where they are a
yellowish brown. She is dressed in a practical pair of tan
khakis and a white blouse. Her black harness boots are well
worn but neat. A small flashlight hangs from a brass ring on
her belt. The only jewelry she wears is a silver pentagram
with a peridot gem at its heart.
FAE
In the light of the Dreaming Sloan becomes thinner and paler.
Her auburn waves become darker; the color of dried blood. Her
eyes become dark and weary. She wears old-fashioned clothing.
A dark green jacket with sleeves that are big and puffy at
the shoulder and become tight around her slim forearms and a
large white lace collar. This is worn over a white vest and a
high-necked blouse. Her waist seems impossibly narrow,
accentuated by the small bustle of the long green skirt. At
her neck she wears a brooch. It is a simple flower carved
from black onyx with a small pearl at the center.

A pre-Chrysalis sluagh who has seen ghosts all of her life. A skilled observer of life who captures its wonder on film. A skilled photographer on the verge of international fame. Her future seems so bright, who knows what will happen when she chrysalizes.
YOUTH
Barbara was a shy child, preferring books to people. When she
was about 5 years old her father let her snap some pictures
with his camera. Barbara was hooked. With a camera she had a
purpose. She had a skill that people admired. The camera also
separates her for people. Photographers are outsiders looking
in and most people don't care. A photographer can flatter
their subjects, fed the vanity of a pretty face or capture
moments that are too quickly lost. Barbara learned to hide
behind the lens of her camera. As she grew older her father
set up a darkroom for her. Barbara's skills as a visual
artist grew, took flight, but her social life became
non-existent. She is never without a camera. Barbara has
Scotomaphobia (a fear of blindness) because her entire
existence is defined by how she sees the world. She even has
nightmare in which she is blind.
JOB
Barbara is currently working as a freelance
photographer/artist. Her cousin Moyra, an art agent, has been
successful in selling Barbara's work.
GHOSTS
Barbara has always been sensitive to ghosts. In fact it is
something she has learned to live with quietly. As a child
most people did not believe her. Barbara and the ghosts of
Edinburgh have coexisted together, neither interfering or
bothering the other. Fortunately or unfortunately that has
changed. Last May Barbara did a photoshoot for a story on
Wicca. She was impressed by the group, enough to join them.
She has learned the basics of modern witchcraft, casting
circles and calling quarters mostly. During the coven's
Halloween ritual, Barbara was asked to call the western
quarter. Everyone said it was their best Halloween yet.
Barbara on the other had was left with the feeling that life
was never going to be the same. And it hasn't been,
apparently the local ghosts who she had been seeing all of
her life have taken a new interest in her. The increased
attention from the ghosts has actually caused her to travel,
first to Kilkenny, then London and now Paris.
WHEN BARBARA MEET AN ESHU
Barbara loved Scottish dancing, she never passes up an
opportunity to attend a ceilidh. One day she was at a
ceilidh, and was drawn to take the picture of a black
tourist. The tourist was wearing bright blue and green silks.
Her skin was creamy smooth brown and her eyes a sparkling
blue. The woman was smiling and laughing. Obviously a good
dancer, but out of step with the locals. Her eyes following
the feet of others as she tried to learn the steps. Barbara
took the picture, catching the movement and laughter of the
woman and a few of the other dancers. Barbara knew the
picture would capture a perfect moment. After the dance
Barbara introduced herself to the woman, whose name was
Dashawn Williams. Barbara told her that she was photographer
and she would like to send her a copy of the picture. Dashawn
was very interested and asked to see Barbara's work. Barbara
still does not know why, but she took Dashawn back to her
place. They talked till dawn about Barbara's work and
Dashawn's travels. Dashawn made several cryptic comments
about Barbara being 'asleep'. Dashawn offered to show Barbara
the 'world' (Barbara still thinks she meant something deeper
than just travelling). Dashawn left Edinburgh at the end of
the week and Barbara saw her off at the airport. Dashawn's
parting words were about Barbara looking her up when she
'wakes up and dreams'.
