CAPE TOWN!
Sub-Saharan Africa Cycling Expedition
August-November 2003
Tim Gibson
Thank you for visiting the website that I created with the hope of making the highlights of my cycling trip through Sub-Saharan Africa accessible to friends, family and anyone else interested in bike touring and/or travel in this part of the world.  I finished my trip at the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa on November 23, 115 days and approximately 5000 miles after getting on my bike on the equator in Nanyuki, Kenya.  The nearly four months I spent cycling through sub-Saharan Africa will certainly be one of the most memorable experiences of my life.  Huge thank-yous to Lajos Jozsa for helping me to convince myself that this trip was possible, to Tod Andrews for helping me get my bike in order before the trip, to everyone who invited me to stay at their house along the way, to the people at Broadway Cycles in Tzaneen, South Africa and Cycle HQ in East London, South Africa for the free equipment, to the many friends who wrote to encourage me during my trip, and to my family for putting up with my crazy ideas about how to spend a vacation.  I apologize for the ads on this site, but without outside funding for the trip I could not afford a site that blocks ads, thus I have no control over what the host chooses to display in addition to my content.  I will continue making improvements to the site, but in the meantime use the links below to enjoy some of my best photos and stories from the road in Africa.
