So what does the above groundwork have to do with your query? As I said earlier God does not make everything happen. We as humans often think that He has a thumb on the world and controls every move of the planet and contents. I strongly disagree with that.
I see it this way. He put the universe in motion through space and time turning it loose, so to speak, to exist under His law of Christ. This, in part, is the word spoken in the beginning that started all at the creation.
The law of Christ is much more than can be studied here and deals with both the spiritual and the physical. In the physical realm we know one aspect of this law as gravity. The basic concept of Christ law must be established to motivate the thought process in understanding that the word which built the universe is also the law that holds it all together and breathes life into it.
Who are we to tell God His creation is lifeless? Do we dare say He does not know what He is talking about when He says  "...the stones will cry out!" Absolutely not! The earth is very much alive. Not only with the organisms we spoke of earlier but it moves, breaths, and has a pulse. Note, earthquakes, and gases belch up from volcanoes with eruption of lava. In my opinion lava is the blood of the earth.
Now lets talk about grate storms that occur on the surface. God set in motion the dynamics of the weather. It happens just as it does. He does not control every move of this environment but lets it occur as the laws of nature take their course. Nature’s laws are another point in the law of Christ. He set them into motion with prescribed perimeters. Unfortunately we are sometimes in violent storms as they take place.
There were a few bible times when God had direct intervention with the weather, ground or earthquakes. But these were to deal with a particular problem at hand. It was always to make a point to those who were present and of later times. He is very astute at making His point and made it clear why He did what He did.
When we have a weather, water, ground or space event it's not saying God is punishing us. If there is lose of life we can not fault God. He's the maker. Our finite minds are no match against Him or His ways. The record shows the only times God interfered with nature was when He was upset and had to make a serious point.
We simply need to accept the fact we are not invincible by letting these events remind us that we get a glimpse of His mighty power through nature and how awesome the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob really is. We are dust in His hands waiting to be molded into His image. Note, this is not saying we are of little value but addresses the fact we are the creation and not the creator.
God brought forth a living environment for mankind to thrive in. We have a life to live and it is our choice what we do with it. He would prefer us to give it back to Him in joyful service of love. However we are in control of ourselves and make our own choices.
