Oklahoma City National Memorial
The first real stop we made on our trip was to here in downtown Oklahoma City to see the Oklahoma City National Memorial for those who died in the terrorist attack on April 19, 1995 on the Murrah Federal Building.  The Memorial is just simply an incredible place.  I think everyone should try to make a visit here at least once.  This might be the most memorable experience of the entire trip.
This is Survivor Wall, an actual wall from the Murrah Building remaining from the attack.
There are two gates to the Memorial, the 9:01 and the 9:03 gates, noting the minute before and after the explosion. In between the two is a reflecting pool.  This picture was taken from underneath the 9:03 gate looking at the 9:01 gate.  You can also see the Survivor Tree on the left side of this picture, as well as in the first picture.  It is an 80 year-old Elm tree that survived the explosion.
This is the "Field of Empty Chairs".  It consists of 168 chairs, each listing the names of the people who's lives were lost in the attack.  The smaller chairs are for the 19 children who died.  There are also three instances where two names appear on a chair.  In those cases, a woman was pregnant and was far enough along in her pregnancy that a name had been chosen for the baby.  The walkway around the field matches the footprint of the Murrah Building.
Items left by people in a chain link fence just outside the Memorial.
