  • Beginners Central. Another good web-based tutorial on the Internet for Windows users. Chapter 2 on Off-line Operations and File Downloading offers straight-forward and and easy-to-follow directions. Other chapters are devoted to e-mail, newsgroups, FTP, and telnet.
  • Lycos Multimedia & FTP Searches.  Narrow your search for multimedia file types by selecting the filename extension, i.e. gif, jpg, mid, mp3, exe, and zip.
  • CNET Download.com. Organizes downloadable software for PC, Mac, Linux, Windows CE, and Palm Pilot. Has special categories for most popular downloads, new releases, and the editors' choices. Check out the downloads in Education category. Use the search tool to find a specific ware.
  • ZDNet Free Downloads. Free games, utilities, screensavers, graphics and multimedia, as well as business, home, and education software. Also lists popular downloads by date of release, star rating, number of downloads, etc. Especially useful are the system requirements, product description and reviews.
  • Clip Art Warehouse this archive of clip art compiled by Graham Coupe is one of the least uncluttered ones among clip art collections. Contents are organized in categories, i.e. animated gif, icons, buttons, lines, and textures (backgrounds), some of these are designed by him.
  • MIDI Mania 3000. Collection of thousands of songs plus links to other MIDI sites.
  • MP3.com. Over 250,000 songs in all genres, from Alternative to Latin, Poetry to Celtic. Its best features is it encourages new artists to submit their works. You can listen and sample their music, and order the CD for as low as $5.99. The site also features reviews and downloads of MP3-related software and hardware. 
  • NASA Multimedia Gallery. Presents photos, videos, animation, audio, and art galleries on aerospace exploration. There's a link to its NASA Television site. You'll need QuickTime and RealPlayer software to view some of the multimedia files.
  • QuickTime. Contains downloads, movie trailers, as well as news, weather, and entertainment channels. Don't miss HBO's Kid Flicks  Online Film Festival showing QuickTime movies created by children. If you don't have the latest version of QuickTime movie player this is where you can download a free copy.
  • Real.com. Get your free RealPlayer7 and RealJukebox here. RealPlayer allows you to listen and view hundreds of radio and video channels on the Web, from CNN to Discovery, get the latest reports from sports to weather stations as well. Compile your own music library with RealJukebox which records CD music and downloads MP3.
  • The Daily WAV. This online newsletter offers both waveform and midi files. The main page offers a quirky menu of famous and not so famous clips from movies and commercials.
