FTP Sites
Finding public FTP sites is easy, all you have to do is do a search by
typing "FTP sites" with any search engine. Here are some notable ones for
educational purposes:
Project Gutenberg. A 10,000
book public electronic library established in 1971. Most of the books in
this collection are copyright free. There are three portions of the Project
Gutenberg Library, basically be described as: Light Literature; such
as Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass, Peter Pan, Aesop's Fables,
etc. Heavy Literature; such as the Bible or other religious documents,
Shakespeare, Moby Dick, Paradise Lost, etc.; and References such as Roget's
Thesaurus, almanacs, and a set of encyclopedia, dictionaries, etc.

SUNET FTP Archive. The Swedish University's
Network archives offers updates and tips in What's New, a site search engine,
and a well organized index of categories featuring something for everyone
such as a free-online dictionary, games, programming, security, Mac, utilities,
etc.

Washington University Data Archive.
Claims to be the world's largest Windows archive, but also offers "stuff"

versions, one is the "Classic" and the other is for the "Internet Explorer."
Both give step-by-step instructions on how to get started, prepare the
users settings, log-on and connect to an FTP site, and transfer files.
