Steps Home | Mac Secrets

The Trash can is used for two things: to store files you intend to delete, and to eject an external disk such as a diskette, Zip, CD-audio or DVD. Bear in mind that files placed in the Trash can are not really deleted, but are kept there in case you need them again. To get rid of them permanently, you must empty the Trash.

1) Select "Empty Trash" from the menu - "Special".

2) The dialog box will appear like this.

In some certain cases, when if f you try to empty the Trash while locked files are inside, you'll get a message, saying "some items could not be deleted because they are locked. Do you want to delete the other items?" Although the rest of items are deleted away, others are locked in the Trash. So you try pressing Option while delete all this.
