Hayoga
(Hey-Oh-Ga)

Description:
His is a long, narrow face with features that appear to have been chiseled by the most talented miners on Pern, and its creamy, fair complexion is a fairly good clue that most of this good-looking young man's turns have been spent in cold climates. Tall for his age, he stands at least two inches above six feet, his tall form topped by dusty, sand-colored hair, with brighter straw-yellow highlights. He wears it trimmed neatly, and obviously has it done often, for it is a rare occurrence indeed when even one strand will touch the tips of his ears. A graceful jaw, a dramatic cleft in his chin, and those well-centered, big hazel eyes all add to his attractiveness. One might guess him to be 16 Turns, 7 months, and 27 days old.
His well-built form isn't easily seen through the layers upon layers of clothing he wears. Worn trousers, lined heavily with fur adorn his legs, though the pants are still baggy. A long sleeved tunic, an ivory, off-white in color, is tucked under an old wherhide boot, undyed, that matches the equally worn boots on his feet. Over that tunic he wears a heavy leather jerkin, also left undyed. Slung 'round his shoulder is a knot made of two cords, one silver and one ice-blue, with a strand of gray entwined between them. It is the knot of a Holder resident at Oriel.

Background:
Markin never was the faithful sort... He even admitted his fault of being tempted by any woman that breathed to his wife Netami, the day she became the other Holder of Greystones Hold. Still, Netami couldn't help being jealous or Markin's many mistresses, and grew excessively suspicious whenever the Greystones Holder would leave on 'business.' Rightly so, though, because most of the time, he was charming young women who had barely reached their twentieth turn, and persuading them to warm his bed. Fortunately for him, though, he would leave the young women quickly, without incident... Until one winter's day, when he received a message from Iscia, a young woman from a nearby Cothold whom he had been with not even a turn ago. Iscia had recently given birth to not one, but three illegitimate children, all born simultaneously (well, a quarter-candlemark apart, at least). Markin, afraid of the news getting out, sent Iscia an unruly amount of marks twice every turn, to buy her silence.
The eldest triplet, though not by much, was Hayoga, who, fortunately, was born without any of their father's many illnesses. After him, though, came Hisidan, who had a tendency to bleed and bruise easily, whom Iscia shamelessly fussed and fussed over. The youngest of the three was Iscyndia who was born healthy enough, physically, but was an awfully shy and quiet sort... Needless to say, Hayoga, (who wasn't even /that/ much older than either of them), grew to be quite protective of his younger siblings... And, by the time he became old enough to walk and talk, the already attractive young boy was adored by those around him.
Just after the triplets' fourteenth turnday, the ailing Markin came to the conclusion that Netami would never give him an heir, so he openly admitted to being their father, and insisted that Hayoga be sent to Greystones Hold... But where one triplet went, the others followed closely behind. So, much to Netami and Markin's brother Dhoran's chagrin, all three of the children moved to the larger hold. A month after their arrival, a message was sent, announcing the death of the triplets' feeble mother. The trio was not given much time to grieve, though, as their more formal education began. Hisidan was given lessons on the pipe, Iscyndia grew quite talented at more visual arts, and Hayoga was stuck with the misfortune of being taught diplomacy and politics. Combined with their other lessons, Hoga and Iscyndia were also taught to ride and care for runners... But because of his illnesses, the significantly weaker Hisidin was left out once again, and forced to stay inside and practice the old Harper ballads.
Netami, and Markin's equally envious brother Dhoran both plotted together for months, and finally, the jealous uncle decided to secretly train Hisidin to ride runners, as well, so, the furtive lessons continued for over a turn... Then, as sixteenth turnday presents, Hayoga and Iscyndia were given their very own runners. Secretively, Hisidan received a similar gift from their uncle Dhoran, though his was a less-than-tame creature. While the other two were 'breaking in' their new mounts, the middle sibling was encouraged to chase after them, and flaunt his new talent. Inevitably, the weaker boy fell off his runner, just as he appeared in the others' sights. The youngest stayed with her brother as Hayoga raced back to the hold to get a healer. By the time he had returned, though, Hisidan had died.
Dhoran and Netami were both quick to falsely accuse Hayoga of causing his brother's death, announcing that /he/ had been teaching the other boy to ride runners all along. Markin, whose failing health was becoming more apparent, proclaimed that his eldest son had shamed him, and would be sent away, with his sister. Even the perfect, stable, and formerly adored Hayoga couldn't handle all of the stress brought on by the accusations, and having lost his only brother didn't help his mental or physical stability. The very day he arrived at Oriel, Hoga grew weak, and had trouble breathing, and after visiting the posted Healer, it was announced that he had come down with a disturbingly serious case of pneumonia. After spending a month or so in Oriel's infirmary, he is only beginning to recover...
