Musica

Musica

Music is the art in which I developed since my childhood, and is a main peace of my life. I have been playing piano for 24 of my 28 years, and, by this instrument I had my first approach with this art. No surprise so that my start was with classical music, and that only lately I developed interest to other forms of music expression.

I must say that the concept of classical music does not fit very well the so called cultured music. All ages had "pop" music, and time strains pieces, making only the best ones survive. The same will happen in the future. For example, who will remember Divine, or Al Corley, even if a couple of their song had some success in the short period?

As I said many are the kinds of music object of my interests. Starting from the baroque Bach of the Brandenburg concerts, passing through the classic Mozart of Don Giovanni, the complex Beethoven of piano sonata op.91, the romantic Brahms of the four symphonies, the expressive Chopin, the impressionist Debussy, the peculiar rhythms of Ravel second piano concerto, the modern Shostakovich until nowadays Michael Nyman.

The rising of punk in England in the late '70s, aroused my interest (and I yet dream of mixing punk and jazz in some symphonic composition, am I insane?).

In the late '80s I developed a great sympathy for American jazz in its first expressions and for musical's songs written by Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Charmichael, Irving Berlin, even if my favorites are the Weill's ones, especially those written during his exile in the States. Little by little I have learned some hundreds of songs, and with them also some nowadays ones by Elton John, Queen, Beatles, Cranberries and more.

My favorite singer nowadays is Björk, that in my opinion managed to introduce something brand new in her songs.

But "practise" in music does not only mean playing piano: I compose too, and even if I am not very prolific, in the years from 1985 to now, I evolved a lot, starting with old style (baroque, classical, and dodecaphonic) until today, adopting jazz rhythms and an harmony based on superposition of fourths. My last two compositions (a piano sonata and a piano and violin sonatina) express my melancholy mood together with a sometimes bitter sense of humour. I'm at work at present, starting a piano concerto, which will be my first experience with an orchestra, and a mass for a 25 years wedding anniversary.

I'm very interested in discussing opinion of musical matter, so if you are too, or want to exchange some scores, mail me.
