There Is nothing like a flock of ducks or geese that set its wing and slide right in to your spread.

Much of my fun comes from  trying to out smart these wary birds. Remember the slightest thing out of place  they will flare and look for a more safe environment . Little things like the glare of your gun , or the  motor on your boat is not covered , or  a sandwich bag is caught on the side of the blind , or the one that is most likely to say lets get out of here to ducks and geese is movement in the blind.

Ducks and geese have GREAT eyesight. They have wide angel vision which lets them scan a big area fast. They also have hearing a little less than ours. We humans can hear various pitches  in the 20,000 (cps) Cycles per second while a duck hears in the 8000 (cps) range. They also have a fair smell sense.

One thing I think we all have learned is it doesn't take long for the ducks to learn where the hunters are and where its safe. Sometimes a great mass of ducks and geese will seek safety just inside a waterfowl sanctuary while all the hunters around them watch as they climb before they hit the safe line as I call it , or stay high till they get to the safe line then dive into the sanctuary  leaving you with nothing more than a pretty view. This is a time when we hope for new flight ducks to come into the area as they don't have the routine done yet. Thats why days are so good when there is a winter storm on the way because it pushes new ducks into the area

Ducks and geese are great fliers, some pintails have been recorded through banding to fly over 5000 miles
