Tonbokan Goshinjutsu Ranking system

Tonbokan Goshinjutsu is a basic self-defense system of martial arts available to the general public and to make it easier for people who may be more familiar with the standard contemporary type belt system, coloured belts and the Dan-i (Dan/Kyu) ranking system have been incorporated and are used similarly within Tonbokan Goshinjutsu. 9th Kyu - White Belt 8th Kyu - Yellow Belt 7th Kyu - Orange Belt 6th Kyu - Green Belt 5th Kyu - Blue Belt 4th Kyu - Purple Belt 3rd Kyu - Red Belt 2nd Kyu - Brown Belt 1st Kyu -  Brown Belt 1st Dan - Black Belt/1st degree 2nd Dan - Black Belt/2nd Degree (Assistant Youth Instructor) 3rd Dan - Black Belt/3rd Degree (Youth Instructor) 4th Dan - Black Belt/4th Degree (Assistant Instructor) 5th Dan - Black Belt/5th Degree (Instructor) 6th Dan - Black Belt/6th Degree (Assistant Master Instructor) 7th Dan - Black Belt/7th Degree (Master Instructor) 8th Dan - Black Belt/8th Degree (Assistant Director) 9th Dan - Black Belt/9th Degree (Director) 10th Dan - Black Belt/10th Degree (Kancho) Uniforms worn in class are standard Black Keiko-gi

* Currently, those who cannot afford a Keiko-gi may wear work-out sweats or similar loose and durable clothing until they are able to obtain a uniform. During outdoor classes, students are not required to wear a formal uniform unless directed to do so by an instructor for special events or circumstances.

Tonbokan Goshinjutsu is taught as a modern programme of self-defense and personal refinement and should not be confused with the private advanced  system of Kurokawa-ryu AikiBujutsu which is studied by direct family and close trusted associates for traditional linear purposes. For those who prefer private instruction, individual classes are available by appointment.
